Career Net success breeds friendship

When Abbi and Alex both joined our Career Net programme to gain skills and qualifications to help them in to work, they were also about to form a great friendship.

Despite joining the programme at our Mablethorpe centre at different times, both girls have struck up a friendship after a twist of coincidence.

Career Net supports 15-24 years olds who are not in work or at risk of not being in education. It helps young people to increase their skills to progress into work or further study through practical hands-on learning and an enterprising project. From hands-on projects to managing money workshops Career Net will help them to launch their future.

Abbi came to CLIP to complete a short employability course with hope of gaining confidence in the job market. And after finishing the course as well as mind-set and confidence sessions, she applied for and was successful in finding a job at Marisco pharmacy.

Alex’s long term goals are to get into nursing but initially needed to gain qualifications to eventually move into the world of work.

And she wasted no time completing multiple qualifications to give her some new skills but also boost her confidence. During her time with CLIP, Alex completed:

  • NCFE Entry level 3 Essential Digital Skills
  • NCFE CACHE Level 1 Award in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care
  • MHFA England Mental health First Aid
  • NCFE Level 1 Employability Award

Alex then felt she was ready to apply for work and she was successful in finding a job – joining Abbi at Marisco Pharmacy where they have formed a great friendship.

Both women have now overcome their confidence issues and felt attending our Career Net programme has helped them realise their potential and believe in themselves.

Tutor for the programme, Nicky Lord said: “We’re over the moon that we’ve been able to support these two women get into work through our Career Net programme. And the fact that they’re now good friends is a fantastic bonus result.

“We have supported them into a role with a career mind in goal and from here on they will both develop their skills and qualities.

“We wish them every success and look forward to hearing from them when they are both ready to make their next steps. “
