Description

The QA Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) has been specifically designed to meet the criteria set by the Department for Education’s EYFS Framework and is ideal for:

· Those who wish to be included in the staff to child ratios to comply with EYFS requirements.

· Registered childminders and assistants who are required to hold a current and full paediatric first aid

· Anyone who has a non-professional involvement with infants and children, such as parents, grandparents and want to learn key paediatric first aid skills

Course content:

Over a 2 day period, learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of paediatric first aid situations, including: The roles and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider

· Assessing an emergency situation

· Dealing with an unresponsive infant or child

· Recovery Position

· CPR and AED

· Choking

· Head, neck and back injuries

· Fractures

· Anaphylaxis and allergic reactions

· Meningitis

· Asthma

· Febrile Convulsions

· Seizures

· Diabetic Emergencies

· Poisoning

· Burns and scalds

· Electric Shock

· External Bleeding

· Hypovolemic Shock

· Eye, ear and nose conditions

· Bites and stings

· Minor Injuries

Requirements

The course is open to all. Participants need to be aware that it is quite a full course and need to be committed to both sessions to gain the qualification.

The course involves practical skills and assessments and theory assessments (which are 'no book' assessments). As such, learners need to advise if they have any physical or academic issues regarding these assessments in order that reasonable adjustments can be planned in advance to support the learner in achieving to the best of their ability.

What do I need to do this course?

Commitment to attend both days training to get the full certificate.

Pen and paper.

Comfortable clothing.

Please arrive a few minutes early as the training will start at 9am prompt. Late learners may not be able to join the training if they have missed vital information.

Photographic ID will be required for the day. Please ensure you bring this for the tutor to see (failure to bring could result in you not being able to sit the final assessment.) In the event that photographic ID is not available, please contact your local centre.

Teaching Methods

Mix of tutor input (theory) and practical activity. A book will be provided to take away.

How is your progress checked?
Weekly feedback from tutor. Learners will be asked to complete a Personal Learning Record throughout their course and you may be asked to complete a feedback questionnaires for our funding bodies. Observation, questioning, group activities, presentations and discussion.
Extra study or practice required at home.
