  • Define what is meant by the term Depression
  • Differentiate between low mood, grief and clinical depression.
  • Identify at least four causes of depression
  • Describe at least four symptoms of depression
  • Outline one type of specific depressive disorder including signs and symptoms
  • Outline therapies and management techniques used for depressive disorders.


This course will look at the typical signs and symptoms associated with depression, its possible causes and potential therapies/management. All those interested are encouraged to come along; no previous knowledge is necessary.


Course content:

In addition to the summary above we will cover the wider impact of depression on everyday life and the range of depressive disorders.

  • A range of activities, including tutor and whole group discussion.

    How is your progress checked?

    Learners will be asked to complete a Personal Learning Record at the end of the course, which will include tutor feedback.
