Yoga is good for your body and mind. With regular practice you will notice your body become stronger and more flexible.
Our yoga for better mental health course is focused on helping you use yoga to positively impact your mental health.
You'll also be able to share your experiences with those present and learn breath and meditative techniques to support your yoga practice.
This course aims to empower and motivate learners to positively effect their own mental health. This may be as an aid to improve confidence or get back into the workplace for example. Or it could be that you've had post natal depression or other hard to navigate mental health issues that have held you back.
The topics taught will make an excellent addition to help you may be already receiving from the medical sector or through therapy.
The course will use an holistic approach encompassing;
1. diet and lifestyle,
2. core biological concepts and neuroscience,
3. ayurvedic and therapeutic yoga principles,
4. ideas on how to restore balance in daily life
There will be opportunity for the attendees to have discussions regarding their experiences and any mental health concerns to encourage peer support and understanding in a safe and non-judgmental environment.
Each session will be roughly divided into two halves, the first being the presentation and discussion and the second being practice and experiencing the therapeutic application of yoga, breath and meditative practices.
Each session will be split into 2 sections. The timings may vary a little as it will be somewhat led buy participants questions and observations. The first section will be for introduction of the core topic of the day and how it applies to practice. The second part of the session will be the chair yoga practice with a little time left for further observations at the end of practice.
The course is open for all adults wanting to positively change their mental health, or support others with their mental health problems, such as close friends and family.
You do not need to be diagnosed with a mental health problem to attend the course.
If you have a severe mental health problem please be aware that this is not a curative approach but a supportive/complementary one, so medical support should be your first port of call.
It would be preferable that you be reasonably mobile for the yoga practices although they will not be strong or gymnastic.
Learning will be through presentation and discussion for the holistic health part of the session
The chair yoga practice will be through experiential learning with verbal guidance, demonstration and clear instruction.
Learners will be asked to complete a personal learning record and weekly feedback during their course.
