This Level Three course in understanding mental health is designed to help build your awareness of mental health issues and the importance of mental wellbeing.
In this course you’ll learn about mental health and how it can impact us all, about good mental health and bad mental, legislation surrounding mental health and the different ways that people can get support.
The knowledge learned can be applied across work settings and will give you an understanding of the skills needed to work in mental health services.
The mental health crisis is becoming increasingly prevalent in the UK, with 1 in 4 adults experiencing a mental health problem every year. The Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health is designed to provide a greater awareness of mental health issues and the importance of mental well-being. Learners will build a knowledge base that can be used in a variety of occupational roles, gaining an understanding of the skills needed to work in mental health services, the importance of addressing mental health problems, and how legislation and publicity are changing attitudes towards those seeking treatment.
Two units covering the following sections:
Unit 1: Understanding the context of mental health and wellbeing.
Unit 2: Promotion of mental health and wellbeing.
Unit 3: Mental health problems: associated issues and consequences.
Unit 4: Understanding mental ill health.
Unit 5: Working in mental health.
Access to the Internet, with access to a laptop or tablet with a keyboard.

Learners will be asked to complete a personal learning record and weekly feedback during their course.
The tutor will offer regular feedback through informal and formal methods.
You will complete your work online for marking at regular intervals. The tutor will then give you feedback on your work as well as any areas for improvement or any additional knowledge you may need to research to meet the unit criteria. Monthly formal one to ones will be completed via Teams with a booked session each month.
You will be expected to give time to your studies which will all be completed at home via the learning portal.
You will need to dedicate 3-5 hours per week to complete all units in the allocated time.
