We’re Giving Young People in Mablethorpe a Voice on Mental Health

At Clip (Community Learning in Partnership),we want to support young people in Mablethorpe and nearby areas. That’s why we’re excited to start a new project about mental health, thanks to funding from the Lincolnshire Voluntary Engagement Team (LVET).

Many young people in Lincolnshire struggle with their mental health. In 2023, Lincolnshire County Council found that 21,000 young people had mental health worries, but only 39% were getting support. East Lindsey had the lowest number of referrals, meaning many young people weren’t getting the help they needed.

Let’s Talk About It – A project led by young people

Our project, Let’s Talk About It, gives young people the chance to speak up. A group of 16- to 18-year-olds from our Flare and Spark programmes will lead the research. They’ll talk to other young people to find out:

  • How many young people need help with their mental health
  • Why some don’t ask for support
  • How easy it is to find and use mental health services

Making a difference

This project is about more than just research—it’s about action! The group will create a simple, easy-to-read leaflet. It will include real stories, useful advice, and details of where to get help.

Over the next few months, they will gather information and share their findings at a special event with local organisations. We hope their work will help improve mental health services for young people in Mablethorpe and beyond.

Why this matters

Liz Coldicott, Lead Tutor for Flare, explains:
“We’re so proud of our young people for leading this project. They care about making a difference. This year, 61% of our students have shared concerns about their mental health. We want to make sure they get the right support.”

Greg Bacon, CEO of Acis Group, adds:
“At Acis Group, we support people when they need us. This project will give us a better understanding of the challenges young people face. We are eager to hear the results so that we can use them to help shape the future of our services in the area particularly at a time when Clip are due to move into the new Campus for Future Living”

Creating real change

This project builds on a 2024 study by the University of Lincoln, which found that young people in Mablethorpe want more chances to have their voices heard. Thanks to Clip, young people are now leading the way to real change.

We’ll share updates as the project moves forward—stay tuned!
